EOI: Temperance Hall – Front Studio Residency, 2025
Across 2025, Temperance Hall is pleased to offer six 2-month studio residencies in our newly refurbished Front Studio.
Thanks to generous seed funding from several key private supporters of Temperance Hall, as well as support from the City of Port Phillip and the Palais Theatre Community Fund, we will be offering six choreographic artists studio residencies across 2025, providing exclusive access to our Front Studio, in addition to a $2K* stipend, and professional documentation of your work.
The Front Studio is a 5*7m space, with a smaller, dedicated dance floor installed at its centre. Artists will be given a key to the building, and offered access 7 days/week for 2 months.
The residency will culminate in a public outcome self-determined by the artist in consultation with Temperance Hall. This will serve as an occasion to share your research, and gather community at Temperance Hall.
We are seeking to support independent choreographic artists who will use the space to develop their practice. We are interested in supporting artists working in experimental forms, and we apply a broad lens to the term ‘choreographic’. We encourage applications from First Nations, CALD, Deaf or Disabled, and LGBTQIA+ artists. Individuals and collectives can apply.
The EOI is due at midnight on Sunday 27th October. With successful applicants due to be notified in mid-November.
This is a pilot program. We anticipate many more worthy applicants than the 6 spaces available.
Please contact program@temperancehall.com.au with any questions or access requests.
*The Front Studio Residency is a burgeoning program in its first year. We will continue to develop and expand its scope. $2K is the minimum stipend currently on offer; pending the success of outstanding funding applications this fee may increase.
The Front Studio Residency was made possible by the foundational contributions of Temperance Hall supporters Toni Maticevski, Min Li Chong, Gillian and Ian McDougall, Shelley Lasica and Nancy Black, and through the support of the City of Port Phillip Council and the Palais Theatre Community Fund. Temperance Hall is generously supported in 2024 by Neilson Foundation and the City of Port Phillip, and through private donations from our community members.
